Art Law

DBM’s Art Law Practice Group represents estates, artists, collectors and dealers in appraisals, tax and estate planning and transactions such as sales, consignments and structured donations. Practice areas include tax counseling, formation of not-for-profit entities and trusts, museum representation and counseling, copyright and right of publicity opinions, retaining experts, appraisers, dealers and auction houses, negotiating purchases and sales of artworks, and structuring estate plans for collectors and visual artists. Dispute resolution and litigation experience includes federal and state proceedings involving authenticity, lost art, stolen art recovery and commission disputes.
